This weekâs B ME Bites Trivia Question:
The colours in your living space can influence your mood and energy levels - True or False?
Welcome to edition #42 of B ME Bites! As the Chinese New Year approaches on Wednesday 29th January 2025, itâs the perfect time to reset and refresh the energy in your life. This annual celebration aligns with the New Moon, symbolising a time of new beginnings and intention setting.
Across cultures and centuries, this time of year has always been a moment to embrace fresh starts. From spring cleaning traditions in Western cultures to Diwaliâs focus on clearing out negativity and welcoming light, the idea of starting anew connects us all. Good energy in your surroundings can support good energy in your life, and with a little intention, creating a supportive space can be simple and effective.
This weekâs B ME Bites explores how to prepare for the Chinese New Year and make small, intentional changes to welcome good energy into your lifeâno matter what you believe or celebrate.
Good Energy, Great Year - Easy Ways to Create a Supportive Space
Simple steps to refresh your space, invite positivity, and align your energy for a thriving year ahead
Good energy is about balance, harmony, and renewalâsomething that traditions worldwide have emphasised for centuries. While Feng Shui offers incredible guidance for aligning the energy in your home, creating positivity doesnât need to be complex. Here are simple, intentional steps to help you prepare for the new year ahead.
Honour the Energy of the New Moon
The Chinese New Year begins with the New Moon, a celestial event that has long been seen as a time of fresh starts and possibilities.
What It Means: The New Moon marks a clean slateâa perfect time to set intentions, clear out old energy, and create space for growth.
How to Align: Light a candle, set an intention for the year, or perform a small symbolic gesture like writing down what youâre ready to let go of and letting it go (e.g., burning or tearing it up safely).
Connect with Universal Traditions of Renewal
Cultures around the world have embraced similar ideas of starting fresh:
Spring Cleaning (Western Cultures): A deep clean as winter ends is symbolic of clearing out the old to welcome in the new.
Diwali (Hindu Culture): The festival of lights celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, with homes cleaned and illuminated to invite positivity and prosperity.
First Footing (Scottish Hogmanay): The first visitor to cross your threshold in the new year is thought to bring luck, showing the importance of mindful beginnings.
No matter the tradition, the message is clear: the way we prepare our spaces and minds can set the tone for what follows.
Start with the Physical Space
Physical spaces often reflect our mental state. Cluttered spaces can lead to feelings of overwhelm, while tidy and intentional spaces can inspire focus and calm.
Decluttering: Refer to our decluttering edition for practical tips to clear out anything that no longer serves you.
Weekend Prep Tip: Tidy up your entryway this weekendâitâs often seen as the gateway for energy entering your home.
Set the Tone with Senses
Good energy isnât just what you seeâitâs what you feel:
Add calming or uplifting scents with essential oils or candles.
Enhance the atmosphere with soft lighting or natural sunlight.
Incorporate soothing colours or materials that resonate with you.
Create Mental Space
Clearing mental clutter is just as important:
Journal about your intentions for the new year or what youâre ready to let go of.
Practice a mindfulness exercise, like deep breathing, to centre yourself.
Start a gratitude list to focus on positivity and abundance.
Celebrate the Chinese New Year
Whether or not you celebrate the Chinese New Year, its themes of new beginnings and harmony are inspiring.
Try simple Feng Shui tips to align your homeâs energy for success.
Open your windows to let in fresh air and symbolise the arrival of new opportunities.
Consider adding a splash of red or gold in your decorâcolours symbolising luck and prosperity.
Good energy isnât just something to feelâitâs something you can create. Use this weekend to intentionally reset and prepare for the year ahead.

Weekly Challenge
Your mission for this week, if you choose to accept it, is to do the following:
Pick one area in your home, workspace, or digital life that feels cluttered or overwhelming. Dedicate 20 minutes on at least 3 days over the next week to tidying, organising, or letting go of what no longer serves you. Notice how the act of creating outer order impacts your inner calm and energy levels.
Tip: Focus on areas you interact with daily, like your desk, kitchen counter, or phone. Small, intentional changes can create big shifts!
If you need some help, feel free to hit reply - letâs help you get started if youâre stuck!
B ME Bites is deliberately sent on a Friday morning (Aussie time) so that where ever you are in the world, you have the weekend to give yourself the gift of implementing a small change towards a better you. What will that small change be? Is there a change that you have been trying to make and havenât yet succeeded? Give it another go, applying the above - you can do it!

Answer: True
Research in Frontiers in Psychology shows that colours can have a psychological impact on mood and energy. For example, blue tones promote calmness and focus, while yellow can boost positivity and creativity.
