This week’s B ME Bites Trivia Question:

Chinese New Year always falls on the same date each year - True or False?

Answer at the bottom of this week’s newsletter

Welcome to this week’s B ME Bites đŸ€

If January hasn’t felt like the fresh start it was supposed to be, there’s nothing wrong with you.

In many cultures, the year doesn’t truly begin on January 1. Instead, it starts with the Lunar New Year — when the energy shifts, rhythms change, and momentum naturally begins to return. That perspective offers a very different way to think about beginnings.

The Reset That Arrives When the Energy Changes

A different way to think about beginnings

One of the most interesting things about the Lunar New Year (often referred to as Chinese New Year) is that it doesn’t treat January 1 as the definitive starting line.

Instead, it follows the lunar calendar — a system built around cycles, seasons, and natural shifts rather than fixed dates. The new year begins not because the calendar says so, but because the energy changes.

This year, the Lunar New Year begins on 17 February.

That gives us a few more weeks where things are still settling — a natural pause before momentum returns. Rather than rushing to define what comes next, this time can be used to reflect, release, and quietly prepare for the shift ahead.

In Western culture, we’re used to treating beginnings as sharp and immediate. New year, new plans, new expectations. But life doesn’t always move in straight lines, and energy doesn’t always cooperate with deadlines.

This matters because many people reach mid-to-late January wondering why motivation still feels patchy, clarity hasn’t landed, or momentum hasn’t kicked in yet.

From a cyclical perspective, that doesn’t mean something is wrong. It may simply mean the season hasn’t turned.

Rather than forcing movement, this way of thinking invites awareness — noticing what’s naturally beginning to stir, recognising what’s still settling, and allowing timing to guide the next step.

Beginnings don’t have to be dramatic to be meaningful. Some arrive quietly — as readiness, curiosity, or a subtle shift in focus rather than a bold decision.

The Lunar New Year reminds us that change is often less about willpower and more about alignment. When the energy shifts, movement feels easier — not because you pushed harder, but because the moment supports it.

đŸŒ± A SMALL STEP YOU COULD TRY

If you’d like something practical to support you during this in-between time, here’s a simple approach I’m using myself.

Rather than setting goals or making plans, I’m taking a little time to check the direction I’m moving in.

Not to judge it.
Not to rush change.
Just to notice.

I’m asking myself:

  • Does this direction still feel right for me?

  • What actually supports me as I move forward?

  • What might I need to say goodbye to — even temporarily — to create space?

That might mean letting go of certain expectations, commitments, habits, or even noise that no longer serves right now.

For me, part of that process has been listening to things that support me — music, podcasts, or quiet moments that support reflection rather than distraction.

Nothing dramatic. Nothing final. Just enough space to loosen my grip on what no longer fits and allow the next step to become clearer.

If you’d like to try this:

  • set aside ten quiet minutes

  • choose something to listen to that helps you feel grounded

  • and let yourself reflect without needing answers

Sometimes clarity doesn’t come from deciding — it comes from listening.

💭 REFLECTION

As Chinese New Year approaches, consider this — not as a task, just a thought:

What might shift naturally if you allow the next chapter to arrive in its own time?

If you’d like a little support, you’re always welcome to hit reply — especially if you’re feeling stuck or unsure where to begin.

B ME Bites is shared on Fridays (Aussie time) quite intentionally. Wherever you are in the world, it gives you the weekend as space — not to overhaul anything, but to gently try one small shift that feels supportive right now.

It might be something new, or it might be returning to something you’ve tried before but didn’t quite stick. Either way, progress often comes from approaching it differently, not harder.

If it feels right, give it another go. One small step is enough.

The answer to this week’s trivia question is:
